The West Winds Photographic Group was formed in September 2006 to encourage photography among the residents in the Channel area & to provide fellowship, instruction and inspiration for those interested in the art of photography. The group welcomes new members at any time and encourages the presence of visitors at any meeting.
At present the group has 25 members, 3 of these new for 2011 and coming from all parts of the Channel area, Eggs and Bacon Bay, Kingston Beach, Blackmans Bay and Taroona.
The group's monthly meetings have an average of 15 members attending and they have been times of sharing and good fellowship. Members bring along photos in the open section as well as a set topic, which is a diferent theme each month. For instance: 'Nautical', 'Families', 'Furry Critters', 'The Colour Purple', 'Adventure' and 'Zig Zag'. The themes have presented challenges to our members which is good for us as we all gain new experiences and knowledge. We have had some very interesting, outside the box, photos from some of our members in the open section.
We also have planned photo outings during the year. In May we held a night shoot around the buildings in Macquarie Street, and in June we took photos Under Hobart, during a walk through the Hobart Rivulet from Campbell to Collins Street. Later in the year we hope to have a weekend shoot on the West Coast.
Our members are involved with the Woodbridge Online Access Centre Photo competition and slao exhibitions with the Channel Regional Arts Group in Kettering.
The future of the group looks very good with more people turning to digital photography, and we all learn more about the art of photography and have a great fellowship with those who have a comon goal to take better photographs.
As our advert says:
"Why not come along and see what develops"
